The Michigan Department of Transportation has announced a one-time $5 million State/Local Airport Program for FY2026.

The program supports capital development, maintenance, equipment procurement, and revenue-generating projects, with applications due May 1 and projects required to be completed within the fiscal year.

Given recent budget constraints, many airports have deferred priority infrastructure and operational projects. This funding provides a near-term opportunity to advance those efforts.

This funding is best suited for projects that are already scoped and ready to move, given the compressed execution window between June and September.

While revenue-generating projects are included, selection is likely to prioritize safety, compliance, and system-level needs. Still, its inclusion signals a growing recognition of airport sustainability as part of long-term viability.
